The last hurdle for the Chambal pipeline project to meet the water needs of Gwalior city in Madhya Pradesh has now been cleared. The state water resources department has given permission to bring water from Kotwal Dam in Morena for the people of Gwalior. In this regard, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia met Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav in August and discussed expediting the project.
The work of bringing water from Chambal river is being done under the leadership of Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. During a meeting with Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, the Union Minister requested the departments to quickly decide and work on other works related to the project. Now, exactly on the 30th day of the meeting between the two ministers, the state water resources department has approved the release of 34.5 metric cubic meters of water from Kotwal Dam.
Shivraj and Scindia laid the foundation stone together
The foundation stone of this project was laid on October 8 last year in the presence of the then Chief Minister of the state Shivraj Singh Chauhan and Union Minister Scindia. The then Chief Minister participated virtually from Bhopal. The total cost of this project is Rs 376 crore. Through this project water from Chambal River and Kotwal Dam will be brought to Gwalior Water Treatment Plant. The project has been sanctioned under the Amrit 2.0 scheme.
An intake well is being constructed in Chambal river
An intake well is being constructed in the Chambal River by the Morena Municipal Corporation. Through it 150 MLD water will be delivered to Devari, Morena. Out of this 60 MLD water will be used for water supply system. The remaining water will be brought to Gwalior through a pipeline.

After this, an intake well will be constructed at Chhund Bridge located on the Asan River on the Morena to Gwalior National Highway and the back water (60 MLD) of Kotwal Dam will be pumped to the junction point through Pine. From where 150 MLD of water will be brought to Gwalior Water Treatment Plant through pipeline. After this water will be supplied to the city. The project is targeted to be completed within two years. This will be accelerated after the approval of the Water Resources Department. After the completion of this project, the scarcity of drinking water in Gwalior will be removed to a large extent.
