India is ahead of all the big countries of the world in terms of economic growth. Even in the manufacturing sector, India is competing with the US and China. By 2032, India may outpace five countries of the world, including the US and China, in this sector. The report that has come out now is very shocking. When it comes to alcohol consumption, India is considered to be outpacing the two big countries of the world, i.e. the US and China. This has been revealed by a research conducted in Switzerland. Let us also tell you how India is outpacing the US and China in this matter.
More growth than the United States and China
India’s growing affluent class is driving growth in high-end spirits sales. According to a Swiss researcher, sales of Scotch whisky and fine wines have seen double-digit growth, outpacing the rate of consumption growth in the United States and China. Simon Joseph, a senior luxury brand maker and consumer experience expert based in Zurich, said one subcategory where India has outpaced China and is growing at twice the rate of the United States over a five-year period is luxury Scotch whisky.
Growth of the luxury Scotch whisky market
Joseph, a researcher at Glion Institute of Higher Education, said that according to various data forecasts, the luxury Scotch whisky market is also set to grow at an annual rate of 16 per cent until the end of 2024. Citing data from the UK-based Scotch Whisky Association (SWA), Joseph said that Scotch whisky exports to India are expected to grow at an annual rate of 66 per cent by 2022, ahead of the US, China and other major markets.

India is at the forefront in terms of consumption
According to data from Britain-based SWA, the equivalent of 167 million bottles was exported to India in 2023, up 27 percent from 2019. Joseph said the United States still leads Scotch whisky consumption in terms of value; India is now the largest consumer in terms of quantity, slightly ahead of France. Scotland remains the largest exporter of Scotch whisky.
