Australia’s legendary fast bowler Mitchell Starc has taken many wickets in international cricket and troubled many batsmen with his mischievous bowling. But 2024 Stark will never forget. Especially the dates of 24th June and 27th September are recorded as black days for him in the pages of history. Starc, badly beaten by Indian captain Rohit Sharma in the T20 World Cup, faced a similar situation just 3 months later against England, where Liam Livingston hit a hat-trick of sixes in his single over and scored several runs. Which proved to be the most expensive over in Australia’s ODI history.

This was Starc’s condition in the fourth ODI against England at Lord’s on Friday, September 27. The match started late due to rain and hence the game was decided at 39-39 overs. In such a situation England batsmen needed explosive batting to score maximum runs and that’s what happened. Ben Duckett and captain Harry Brooke played a brilliant and quick innings but the real show was stolen by the explosive batting of power hitter Liam Livingston, whose most dangerous scene came in the last over, when Starc was on target.

Livingston hit a six, a record

Left arm fast bowler Mitchell Starc came in to bowl the 39th i.e. the last over of the innings and in this over Livingston hit 4 sixes and 1 four. Livingston hit a very high and long six over long on on the very first ball. It looked like the ball went over the roof of the stadium. The next ball was a blank but then Livingston hit a hat-trick of sixes off the third, fourth and fifth balls. With this, he completed his half-century in just 25 balls, a new record for the fastest ODI fifty at Lord’s. Then it was the last ball of the over and Livingston scored 4 runs off it. Thus, the entire over yielded a total of 28 runs, which proved to be the most expensive over for Australia in the history of ODI cricket.

Remembered Rohit Sharma

Livingston scored an unbeaten 62 off just 27 balls which included 7 sixes and 3 fours. Based on his innings, England scored 312 runs in 39 overs. Livingston’s blast in the last over reminded Indian captain Rohit Sharma. On 24 June, during the India–Australia match in the T20 World Cup Super-8 round, Rohit scored 29 runs off Starc’s over, including 4 sixes and 1 four. It was also the most expensive over for Australia in T20Is. Almost two months before that, Karn Sharma hit 3 sixes off Starc’s over in the IPL.
