After Bihar’s Director General of Police Rajwinder Singh Bhati moved on central deputation and was appointed to the post of DG of CISF, the long-running case in the administrative corridors of Bihar came to rest. In fact, it was coming to light not long ago that RS Bhati wanted to go on central deputation. On Wednesday, the central government also issued a notification regarding the central deputation of RS Bhati. Interestingly, when RS Bhati was made the DGP of Bihar, he was serving in the BSF. Now the big question is who will be the new DGP of Bihar?
These three names are under discussion
Actually, three names are in discussion for the new DGP of Bihar. These names are Alok Raj, Shobha Ahotkar and Vinay Kumar. It is noteworthy that last time also when the name of the new DGP of Bihar was being discussed, the name of Alok Raj was coming into the race. Alok Raj is a 1989 batch IPS, while RS Bhatti was one year junior to him i.e. Bhatti was a 1990 batch IPS. It was also said then that the state government has broken the tradition regarding the appointment of DGP.
Shobha is one year junior to Alok Raj
Shobha Ahotkar, who is in the race for DGP, is a year junior to IPS Alok Raj, meaning Shobha Ahotkar is a 1990 batch IPS. Alok Raj will retire in December 2025 as per his tenure, while Shobha Ahotkar will retire in June 2026.

Vinay Kumar, who is in the race for DGP, is a 1991 batch IPS officer. If viewed according to seniority, Vinay Kumar is two years junior to Alok Raj and one year junior to Shobha Ahotkar.
All three have different identities
Senior IPS Alok Raj is known as a responsible police officer. Surveillance DG Alok Raj is known for his calm nature and keen eye. Alok Raj, who has held many important positions, has a different working style.
While Shobha Ahotkar is known as Sharp IPS. She is also popular as a lady police officer with a name Hunter Wally, who is considered to be tough-tempered. Shobha Ahotkar is currently the DG of Home Guard and Fire Brigade.
As far as Vinay Kumar is concerned, Vinay Kumar, who studied engineering from IIT Kharagpur, is known as a responsible police officer. Vinay Kumar’s specialty is considered to be his simple and humble nature. Vinay Kumar is currently also holding the post of DG of Bihar Police Building Construction Corporation.
Whose name will be stamped?
Even during the time of RS Bhatti, the state government appointed the DGP out of the box. Now it remains to be seen whether this time also the state government decides the name of the new DGP like last time or takes a decision on the name of the DGP according to seniority.
