Alabama football defensive coordinator Kane Womack made headlines during the first week of Crimson Tide practice for wearing a sweat suit during the practices.
On Thursday, Womack – again in a hoodie – talked to the media and gave the background on his interesting fashion choice in the 90℉ or hotter temperatures. One factor is the weight loss, Womack says he lost seven pounds during Wednesday’s opening practice but was able to get most of it back through hydration.
“I have worn it for so long. I think early on, I was trying to, a lot of older coaches that I know get those spots on them and I kind of got use to it. You get a good sweat in, and all that stuff. Lose a couple of pounds as well. It’s just kind of what I do,” Womack said. “I did it the last three years in Mobile, did it for years before that. It is what it is.”
The sweat suit has brought mixed reactions from Womack’s defensive players, with some liking the fact that he is getting hot like them as they are wearing tights underneath their uniforms.
“He tough, he’s just like us,” Malachi Moore said. “He got a sweatshirt on out there, we wearing tights so it kind of coordinates. He hot, we hot.”
Other players believe that it shows Womack is crazy and would follow the approach of other coaches who are in short sleeves.
“I think it shows how crazy that man is,” Quandarrius Robinson said. “…Of course not. I’d be like coach Roach, just a t-shirt and some shorts”
Womack will continue to battle the heat with his sweat suit as temperatures are projected to stay above 90℉ through at least the next two weeks of practice.
