Will Brock Glenn replace DJ Uiagalelei as FSU QB vs Memphis? Lausanne coach hopes ex-star gets chance

Lausanne football coach Kevin Locastro listens to a lot of sports talk radio.

As expected, much of the conversation locally this week has been centered on No. 25 Memphis (2-0) at Florida State (0-2) on Saturday (11 a.m. CT, ESPN).

The Seminoles‘ winless start to the season and subsequent plummet from No. 10 in the country to unranked has raised questions, many centered on quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei and former Memphis coach Mike Norvell.

However, there’s been little talk about former Lausanne quarterback Brock Glenn, who is the backup for Uiagalelei.

“(Glenn’s) got a big arm,” Locastro said about the former four-star prospect. “He can make those throws from hash to hash. He can throw it 60-70 yards downfield. He’s got great poise in the pocket.”

At Lausanne in just two seasons as the full-time starter, Glenn had over 4,500 all-purpose offensive yards and 57 passing touchdowns with 11 rushing scores. His senior year was his most successful with the program, leading a nine-win regular season and a run to the TSSAA DII-AA state semifinals.

“This is a Memphis kid (via Covington) down there who (won) the ACC Championship game last year,” Locastro said. “But Brock’s just been swept under the rug with D.J. coming in.”

Star quarterback Jordan Travis went down with a season-ending injury in Florida State’s penultimate regular season game last year. After a one-week trial run with current Southern Miss starter Tate Rodemaker, Glenn threw for 229 yards and rushed for a touchdown in his first career start in the conference title game, helping FSU to an ugly 16-6 win over Louisville.

Despite having a perfect record, Florida State was controversially left out of the College Football Playoff, leaving Glenn and the under-manned Seminoles to be crushed by Georgia 63-3 in the Orange Bowl.

A season later, with Travis out of eligibility, Glenn is behind another big name in Uiagalelei, the former five-star Clemson and Oregon State quarterback who transferred to Florida State. Similar to his previous stops, Uiagalelei’s play hasn’t yet lived up to his once-heralded potential.

“We want Brock” chants broke out at Doak Campbell Stadium last week as FSU fell 28-13 to then-unranked Boston College, the Seminoles’ second-straight loss to an unranked opponent. Uiagalelei threw an interception and completed just half of his 42 pass attempts.

If Uiagalelei struggles again, Locastro is hoping Brock will get the chance to play against the Tigers.

“I think it’d be unbelievable if his first college game this year is against Memphis,” Locastro said. “For him, going to high school in Memphis, he knows a lot of kids on the Memphis team and it’d be pretty cool if he got the opportunity to showcase what he can do.”
