The onscreen pairing of Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel in director Anil Sharma’s Gadar 2, released in the year 2023, became a blockbuster of 2023. The film exploded at the box office with a lifetime collection of Rs 525.7 crore. Recently, when ‘Gadar 2’ completed a year of its release, Anil Sharma revealed during an interview how he asked Sunny Deol to ask for Rs 50 crore for each project after the film’s release. Anil also shared information about his upcoming film Vanwas: A Journey of Life with Nana Patekar and Utkarsh Sharma.
In an interview to Bollywood Hungama, Anil Sharma said that before ‘Gadar 2’ he used to make a film every 2-3 years. However, after his previous film, he started working on his next film. The director also revealed that the shooting of his next film has been completed and the film will also star Nana Patekar along with Utkarsh Sharma.
Talking about the film, Anil said, “The name of the film is ‘Vanwas: A Journey of Life’. In the Ramayana the father sends the son into exile and nowadays the reverse is happening. Exile is happening in every house. This is an emotional drama film. Before this I did films like ‘Shradhanjali’ (1981), ‘Bandhan Kuch Dhaagon Ka’ (1983) and ‘Apne’ (2007). This film also belongs to the same category. The film will show what is happening to the elderly in today’s society. Nana Patekar has a great character in this. The scenes between Nana and Utkarsh are mind blowing.
“Sunny Deol entitled to Rs 50 crore”
When asked about his role in Sunny Deol’s comeback, Anil Sharma said, “When I told Sunny sir about Ghadar 2, I told him, “You should do this film and you should do a project entitled to charge Rs 50 crore. This film will help you achieve a different position.”
He continued, “After this, when the film was released, the demand for it increased so much that even its shows started from 3 am. I woke up at 7:30 am and didn’t know anything about it. Then my wife told me about it and showed me videos of the madness happening in theaters for this. Seeing this brought tears to Sunny’s eyes, which was a very emotional moment for us. Sunny sir also deserved it, because he has always been a superstar, but people judge stardom by box office success. “Even in the industry, except me, no one would have dreamed that ‘Gadar 2’ would be such a big hit.”
Anil Sharma said that he is planning to release Vanwas this year. He said that the date of the film will be announced in September. He also revealed that ‘Gadar 3’ is in the works.
Sunny and Anil’s films together
In the year 2001, Anil and Sunny Deol worked together for the first time through the film ‘Gadar-Ek Prem Katha’. The situation is that ‘Gadar’ was one of the biggest hits of that time, which was loved by the fans. After this, both of them entertained the fans with the film ‘The Hero- Love Story of a Spy’ in 2003. After this, the pair of Anil and Sunny went ahead with the film ‘Apne’ released in 2007 and the special thing was that in this film, along with Sunny, his father Dharmendra and younger brother Bobby Deol also played important roles.
After the 2013 release ‘Apne’, Anil Sharma and Sunny Deol starred in ‘Singh Saheb The Great’ in 2013, in which the actor’s unique action level impressed everyone. Then, last year, after almost 10 years, the duo made a comeback with ‘Gadar 2’, which turned out to be a smash hit.
