Jabalpur and surrounding districts of Madhya Pradesh have been receiving continuous rain for the past four days. All the rivers and canals have dried up due to rain. In such a situation, if you are planning to have a picnic or travel with your family or friends, this news is very important for you. Due to continuous rains the water levels of rivers and waterfalls are rising which can lead to major incidents anytime. One such accident took place in Nidan water fall in Katangi police station area of Jabalpur district. Where the incident of drowning of the youth during the picnic has come to light. The incident took place when the youth had gone for a picnic with his other friends. When the water of the waterfall rose while bathing, the young man fell into the deep water. At present SDRF team is doing rescue work.

Giving information, Additional SP Suryakant Sharma said that in the afternoon, information was received through Dial 100 that Gopi Thakur, an 18-year-old youth living in Tilak Colony in Katni district, had gone for a picnic with his friends. While bathing under the waterfall the water suddenly rose and Gopi went into the deep water and drowned. Gopi was searched by friends, police was informed by dialing 100 when Gopi was nowhere to be found. As soon as the information about the incident was received, the Katangi police reached the spot and started searching for the youth with the help of the SDRF team.

The incident has created a stir in the area, as it is the second major incident in the last 24 hours. Earlier yesterday evening, an 8-year-old child drowned in a drain in Katangi police station area. It is being said that this stream joins the Hiran river after a short distance. The search for the child continues, but even after 24 hours, there is no trace of him.

Such incidents make it clear that picnicking near reservoirs and water falls during the rainy season is not risk-free. Rising water levels and strong currents can prove life-threatening for people. Police and administration are also advising people to be careful in such places. But still people are risking their lives in the pursuit of selfies.

In this whole matter, Additional SP Suryakant Sharma says that the search for the youth by the team of Katangi Police and SDRF is still going on. Two SDRF teams are searching for children in Hiran River and youths in Nidan Waterfall. Also, the police administration has appealed to people not to go near reservoirs and water falls during the rainy season. These incidents have made people aware of safety measures while picnicking near water sources and also increased the responsibility of the administration.
